What Makes an Email Spam? How to Avoid It

http://dev.kitrx.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/spam.jpg

By Kim Bowen

In today's world of technology, we spend much less time writing letters to business associates and more time composing emails, so there is a large concern about what differentiates true email from spam email. Most people have reported that nearly half of the emails they received on a daily basis are actual spam emails. With tight deadlines to meet, many people do not have the time to filter through each one of these emails to filter out the true emails.

IT Magazines 2011

9. CIO

CIO box shot

CIO is an IT magazine that covers interesting information technology subjects but doesn't give you a lot for your money. The magazine only offers a handful of articles, and just as many ads, with each issue. We would have liked to see something more substantial for the price you pay. Overall, we liked the few IT articles they include, but we didn't see anything impressive in this magazine's content or design.

Facebook Fan Page Creation Tools 2011

10. thruSocial

thruSocial box shot

ThruSocial, a do-it-yourself Facebook tab creation service, offers an ample collection of widgets and Facebook layouts that will enhance your Facebook fan page. However, when evaluating its Pro service, we were unable to publish our tab into the Facebook application, even after several attempts. When we contacted its customer service department, we didn't receive a response for days. And even when we did, customer service was not able to assist us.

The first time we used Magix Music Maker, we quickly realized it had to be our top choice for audio editing software. The company's Windows Data Recovery application is adequate disk recovery software that recovers accidentally deleted data and data lost from corrupted, missing or reformatted partitions. While the software clearly demonstrated its recovery capabilities, the application isn't without some glaring deficiencies.

Top 10 Online Photo Editing 2011

10. Pixenate

Pixenate is an online photo editing service that offers just the basics. It has a very simple interface, making it easy to find all the effects and tools available. The color adjustments and effects are easy to find, but some of them are a little difficult to use. For example, features like hue and saturation require you to adjust the percentage of the effect. Having to gauge the effect you want to a precise number can make it difficult to use these tools efficiently. Also, compared to other online photo editing services, Pixenate takes a longer time to apply any edits or adjustments to your photos. Overall, this is a less efficient service because you will be spending more time not only adjusting effects but also waiting for Pixenate to apply the effect to your photo.
Pixenate offers editing tools, such as crop, rotate, red eye and teeth whitening. There are a few adjustments available, including contrast and brightness. All of these tools can be used to give your photos a professional look. The tools are found on Pixenate’s tool bar. Pixenate also offers what they call “fun effects,” where you can add text, frames, and stickers that will enhance the look of your photos. Pixenate offers all the editing tools you will need, but it is lacking a little in effects. There are effects such as black and white, sepia and textures available, but common effects like tint, invert and sketch are not available with Pixenate. These omissions are disappointing because these effects are available in most of the other photo editing services we reviewed.

The stylish Lenovo IdeaPad U350 occupies the space between tiny, relatively low powered netbooks and more powerful but also bulkier laptops. While that compromise position continues to some extent, there have recently been some very important improvements to it in terms of computing power that make it a far more attractive package. Top 10 Antivirus Software review

10. Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus +

Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus + (formerly PC-cillin) is another great antivirus software, combining good security with simple usability. The software is well equipped to protect your computer from a number of threats, and has made several improvements this year. The most noteworthy new feature is the addition of cloud-based security, specifically designed to improve detection and resource usage. By running most of the security processes online, Trend Micro Titanium antivirus software detects threats before they make their way to your computer. Furthermore, since most of it is hosted online, you don’t have to waste your hard drive space to store it yourself.

Top 10 Most Famous Hackers

Black Hat Crackers
The Internet abounds with hackers, known as crackers or "black hats," who work to exploit computer systems. They are the ones you've seen on the news being hauled away for cybercrimes. Some of them do it for fun and curiosity, while others are looking for personal gain. In this section we profile five of the most famous and interesting "black hat" hackers.
  1. Jonathan James: James gained notoriety when he became the first juvenile to be sent to prison for hacking. He was sentenced at 16 years old. In an anonymous PBS interview, he professes, "I was just looking around, playing around. What was fun for me was a challenge to see what I could pull off."
James's major intrusions targeted high-profile organizations. He installed a backdoor into a Defense Threat Reduction Agency server. The DTRA is an agency of the Department of Defense charged with reducing the threat to the U.S. and its allies from nuclear, biological, chemical, conventional and special weapons. The backdoor he created enabled him to view sensitive emails and capture employee usernames and passwords.

top 7 Graphics Cards 2011

7. ATI Radeon HD 5770 Review

ATI Radeon HD 5770 box shot

All the modern graphics cards have gone to dual power connectors. Well, all but one. There are actually others, like the rest of the 5000 series ATI cards (which we haven’t looked at) that are less powerful than the 5770, but it seemed odd for this one to only have the single connection. It’s really not a big deal, other than it limits the amount of power it can take in safely, but it is odd. Maybe ATI didn’t have gaming and other intense graphics rendering in mind for the ATI Radeon HD 5770? Whether that is the case or not, it's still a good card. See other great graphic cards in our comparative review site.
